My Hair Transformation: Dark Brown to Violet Hair (Using Drugstore Hair Dye)
Disclaimer: This is NOT a hair tutorial on how to dye your hair violet. I just wanted to share my experience and thoughts about my recent hair transformation. You can easily look up hair tutorials on youtube or google if that's what you want. 👍
In the few times I've coloured my hair, I've always used "safe" colours such as brown & variations of it. My previous work environment was pretty conservative and to be perfectly honest, I was also afraid of doing something crazy with my hair. Recently, I have been wanting to do something different, but I haven't made up my mind on what to do. Then, just the other day, I helped my mum dye her hair Amethyst, and I really liked how it looks on her. So I made up my mind, went to the nearest Priceline and bought 2 boxes of drugstore hair dye (AUD9.99 each).
This is what the back portion of the box says:
The following are the shades you would expect depending on your hair colour:
Since I have naturally dark brown hair, the colour result of the dye should be the one in the middle.
The box contains the following:
Instruction leaflet
Application Bottle with Developer Lotion
Colour developer bottle with instruction leaflet |
Brilliance Colour - Shine Conditioner
Diamond Gloss Serum
Colour Conditioner, instruction leaflet and a capsule of diamond gloss serum |
A pair of gloves
Brilliance Colour Creme tube
Instruction leaflet, Colour Creme Tube and a pair of gloves |

I mixed the gloss serum and the colour creme in the developer bottle. After shaking the crap out of the bottle, here's what it looks like.
I was expecting the mixture to turn violet but was surprised that it turned pink instead. After a while, the shade changed to dark red, kinda like a tomato sauce.
the other box had a different packaging for its colour conditioner...hmmm weird. |
Mum applied the dye on my hair. Since the dye contains ammonia, we had to dye my hair outside because the smell was making us a little light-headed. She used 1 1/2 bottles to dye my long hair. Then when it was done, I let it sit for 30min. We washed my hair with the conditioner then blow-dried it. Under artificial light, my hair looked reddish to me which made me feel a little disappointed. However, under natural light, the violet hue shows up.

I'm loving my new hair colour! I know the violet colour is a little subtle but it's just what I need to get more comfortable before dying it again with something a little less subtle 😉.
